Prossibly an -m lengthening of shkal, hence shkallmoj (“to destroy, bring down”). Cognate to Ancient Greek σκάλμη (skálmē, “knife, sword”), Thracian *skalme (“knife, sword”) and Old Norse scolm (“short sword, knife”).
