servlet (plural servlets)

  1. (object-oriented programming, server) A Java program running on an Internet server that generates web content dynamically in response to requests from clients.
    The difference between servlets and JSP is that servlets typically embed HTML inside Java code, while JSPs embed Java code in HTML.[1]
