From Pali saṃsaya (“doubt”), from Sanskrit संशय (saṃśaya, “doubt; uncertainty; irresolution; hesitation”). Cognate with Khmer សង្ស័យ (sɑngsay), Lao ສົງໃສ (song sai), Thai สงสัย (sǒng-sǎi).
