Etymology
Continues an umlauticized Proto-Albanian *raupā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁reyp- (“to tear, to break”). Cognate to Old Norse rauf (“pit”), Lithuanian raupiù, raũpti (“to hollow out”).[1] Also possibly an ultimate doublet of rrip.
