From Proto-Aslian *rmɛɛt (“yellow”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *rmit ~ *rmiit ~ *rmiət (“yellow; Curcuma species”). Cognate with Khmer រមៀត (rɔmiət, “turmeric”), Mon မိတ် (mìt, “turmeric”), Riang rᵊmit² (“turmeric; yellow”), Kuy lami̤it (“turmeric”).
