From Proto-Aslian *rmɛɛt (yellow), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *rmit ~ *rmiit ~ *rmiət (yellow; Curcuma species). Cognate with Khmer រមៀត (rɔmiət, turmeric), Mon မိတ် (mìt, turmeric), Riang rᵊmit² (“turmeric; yellow”), Kuy lami̤it (“turmeric”).
