From Proto-Norse *ᚱᚨᚷᛁᚾᚨ (*ragina) (attested in ᚱᚨᚷᛁᚾᚨᚲᚢᛞᛟ (raginakudo)), Proto-Germanic *raginą (“advice, decision”). Cognate with Old English reġn-, Old Saxon regin-, regan-, Gothic 𐍂𐌰𐌲𐌹𐌽 (ragin).
