- (astronomy) A relatively rare type of galaxy (accounting for less than 2% of galaxies locally), a type of spiral galaxy which have a red-coloured presentation, and are found to be passive galaxies, galaxies which have ceased to form new stars, lacking young blue stars while rich in old red stars.
