Calque of German Rechthaberei, compound of rätt (“right”) + -s- + hava (“have”) + -eri (“-ery”). According to SO and SAOB attested since 1852.
The failure of justice sense comes from the surface analysis rätt (“justice”) + -s- + haveri (“breakdown”).
