rättesnöre
Swedish
Etymology
From Old Swedish rættesnøre, equivalent to rätta (“align, straighten”) + -e- + snöre. Compare Danish rettesnor, Middle Low German richtsnōr, German Richtschnur.
Now only used metaphorically, originally in the literal sense of strings used for alignment in bricklaying.
