quliŋŋuġutaiḷaq
Inupiaq
Usage notes
As the suffix -utaiḷaq only occurs at the end of a number, the numeral quliŋŋuġutaiḷaq 'nine' does not combine multiplicatively to form higher numbers. For example, 40,000 is tallimaqpak (5×8000), but 72,000 is tallimaqpak sisamaqpak (5×8000 + 4×8000), not *9×8000. It is however used additively, as in piŋasukipiaq quliŋŋuġutaiḷaq '69', which is etymologically 60 + 10 − 1.
