qalbieni

Maltese

Etymology

From qalb + -ieni, from Arabic قَلْب (qalb), perhaps after the expression قَوِيُّ القَلْبِ (qawiyyu l-qalbi, courageous, literally strong of heart).

The same notion exists in many languages, compare German beherzt, English take heart, etc. Compare also the etymology of courage.

  • IPA(key): /ʔalˈbɪː.nɪ/

Adjective

qalbieni (feminine singular qalbiena or qalbenija, plural qalbiena or qalbenin)

  1. courageous; brave
