  1. to make a sound like boiling water
  2. (by extension) to simmer, to boil
    en puttrande gryta
    a simmering stew

  3. to putter (make short, dull, quickly repeating noises (of some engines))
    Mopeden puttrade iväg
    The moped puttered off

Usage notes

Like smattra in (sense 3), but dull and not too loud.
