pressure switch (plural pressure switches)

  1. A switch that operates an electrical contact when a specified fluid pressure is reached on its input. The switch may be designed to make contact either on pressure rise or on pressure fall.
  2. A switch that operates in response to mechanical force, such as a pressure-sensitive mat used to automatically open doors or a pressure-sensitive floor that operates a security alarm.
