poshtë

Albanian

Etymology

A formation in -shtë > *-est, from posh, from Proto-Indo-European *pṓds. Compare Hittite [script needed] (pata), Ancient Greek πούς, ποδός (poús, podós), Old English fōt (foot). Orel suggests a borrowing from Latin post, poste (behind, back),[1] but phonetic problems and a radical change in meaning makes it unlikely.

Adverb

poshtë
