Etymology
First part pole (“is not; are not”), a contraction of older ep ole (Modern Estonian: ei ole (“is not, are not”).
Second part viga (“mistake, fault”), from Proto-Finnic *vika (“fault, defect, mistake”), possibly borrowed from Proto-Germanic *swiką (“deceit; deception; trickery”), from Proto-Indo-European *sweyg- (“to bend, twist”).
