penell
Catalan
Etymology
Inherited from Vulgar Latin *pennellus, masculinized diminutive of penna (“feather, wing”). The failure of Latin /nn/ to yield the expected */ɲ/ in Catalan may be due to palatal dissimilation from the following /ʎ/ < /ll/.
