  1. (UK, obsolete) A West Country game played with sharp-pointed stakes: one is thrust into the ground and the others are thrown in an attempt to dislodge it. If this succeeds, the player who planted the stake attempts to run a certain distance and back before the others can beat it all the way into the ground.
