Reconstructed as pangku + -an, from Javanese pangkon (ꦥꦁꦏꦺꦴꦤ꧀, “virama”, literally “lap”) and Balinese pangkon (ᬧᬗ᭄ᬓᭀᬦ᭄, literally “lap”), from Old Javanese paṅkwan, paṅkon (“lap”). Doublet of pangkuan.
