Etymology
From pan- + diwa. Coined by grammarian Lope K. Santos in 1940 in the Balarila ng Wikang Pambansa (Grammar of the National Language). Previously, a calque of Spanish sustantivo (“noun”) in Mamerto Paglinawan's Balarilang Tagalog (Tagalog Grammar).
