Etymology
From Proto-Yoruba *ɔ̀-cʊ̀kpá, ultimately from Proto-Yoruboid *ó-cù (“moon”) + *kpá, equivalent to o- (“nominalizing prefix”) + ṣù (“to be round”) + pá. pá could perhaps refer to the shining of the moon or the clearness of the moon when it is full. Compare with Yoruba oṣù
