Etymology
From ny- (“new, modern”) + norsk (“Norwegian”), where ny- means modern in the sense that it’s the last stage of the language, cf. nyislandsk (“New Icelandic”) and nyengelsk (“New English”). Cognate with Icelandic nýnorska.
