1. A type of black bean grown in Kenya, hyacinth bean or lablab (Lablab purpureus).

     This may have been due to the rather unsatisfactory manner in which the bjahi went under the ground — future experiments will corroborate this explanation or otherwise — or because the soil is still so fertile and still has so much organic matter that, especially in years of ample rainfall, the amount of soil nutrients derived from two crops of njahi makes no appreciable difference to- the total plant food substances available in the soil.
