Usage notes

  • The word (to) is the only nafnháttarmerki in all of Icelandic.
  • The nafnháttarmerki is not used after the verbs "munu", "skulu", "mega" and "vilja".
    Ég skal koma. - I shall come.
  • When enumerating, the nafnháttarmerki doesn't appear the latter or later adjacent enumerations.
    Hann kann hvorki lesa né skrifa. (He can neither read nor write)
    Ég kann hoppa, ganga og hlaupa. (I know how to jump, walk and run.)
