Possibly borrowed from Albanian nepërkë (“adder, viper”), otherwise cognate to it, from fuller nepërtkë, originally ‘hatchling snake’, maybe from Proto-Slavic *nepъrtъkъ (compare Bulgarian непрътък (neprǎtǎk, “buttercup”)). Compare Aromanian nipãrticã.
