  • There is a general tendency to use nützen instead of nutzen in the southern half of the language area. In Austria, nützen is even the predominant standard form, while thereof derived benützen is not current north of Austria, Switzerland and Southern Germany.
  • In northern and central German, nützen is used alongside nutzen for the sense “to be useful; to benefit”, but almost never for the sense “to make use of”.
