Borrowed from Polish migdał, from Latin amygdalum, ultimately from Ancient Greek ᾰ̓μῠγδᾰ́λη (amugdálē, almond, peach stone). Compare Italian amigdala, Russian минда́ль (mindálʹ), Yiddish מאַנדל (mandl). Doublet of amigdalo.
