Cognate with Plains Cree ᒪᐦᑫᓯᐢ, Southern East Cree ᒪᐦᒉᔔ (mahceshoo), Northern East Cree ᒥᐦᒑᔑᐤ (mihcaashiw), Atikamekw mikeciw. Possibly cognate with Blackfoot máóhkataatoyi (red fox).
