     L’auteur porte ici son attention sur l’importance pratique que doit avoir l’étude psychologique des états intermédiaires entre l’homme normal et le malade mental.

     The author here directs his attention to the practical importance which the psychological study of the intermediate states between the normal man and the mentally ill person must have.

Having been widely used to insult, the term is nowadays considered offensive and is usually replaced by other terms or periphrases to convey the sense of ‘mentally ill person’: e.g. une personne mentalement malade, un individu psychiquement déficient, un homme atteint de troubles mentaux or un homme présentant des troubles mentaux, un psychiatrisé etc.
