Alternative forms

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /mokɔmakɔma/
As for Tonal Class, Benson (1964) classifies this term into Class 10 with a tetrasyllabic stem, together with gĩcinicini, and so on.

Noun

mũkomakoma class 3 (plural mĩkomakoma)

  1. Psychotria fractinervata (syn. Grumilea exserta[3])[1]
  2. Galiniera saxifraga (syn. G. coffeoides) (Rubiaceae)[1]

Usage notes

Benson (1964) also includes the definition Grumilea platyphylla, now considered as synonymous with Psychotria goetzei var. platyphylla, whose only distribution, however, is Tanzania, not Kenya inhabited by Kikuyu people according to Lovett & Clarke (1998) and Govaerts et al. (2021). Dale & Greenway (1961: 444) also had featured Grumilea platyphylla (but with a Kikuyu name Mukambokombo), which was later re-determined and described as a new species Psychotria pseudoplatyphylla by Petit (1964: 90).
