Etymology

Short for mısır buğdayı (Ottoman Turkish مصر بوغدایی, مصر بغدایی), or dialectally also mısır darısı (Ottoman Turkish مصر داریسی), so like in European languages it was called "Turkish corn", it was called “Egyptian corn” in Turkey.
