Compare Latin marzjan (to hinder, offend), Lithuanian maršìnti (make forget), Ancient Greek μαραίνω (maraínō, to rub, consume), Hittite [Term?] (/⁠marriattari⁠/, will destroy). Alternatively, a borrowing from Serbo-Croatian mrziti (to hate).
