Sino-Vietnamese word from 迷惑, composed of 迷 (“to confuse”) and 惑 (“to confuse”), from Chinese 迷惑 (míhuò, “to confound”), perhaps confused with the similar-sounding 魅惑 (mèihuò, mị hoặc, “to allure”). Compare Japanese 迷惑 (meiwaku, “nuisance”) and Japanese 魅惑 (miwaku, “allure”).
