From Proto-Albanian *lup-esja, from llup (“to gulp down, swallow”) (Proto-Albanian *lupa), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *lupa. Compare Sanskrit लुम्पति (lumpáti, “to break down, injure”), Lithuanian lùpti (“to peel”), Latvian lupt (“to peel; eat”), Proto-Slavic *lupiti (“to peel”).[1]
