Etymology

Inherited from Old Catalan lançar, from Late Latin lanceāre 'hurl (a spear)', from Latin lancea (spear) (whence Catalan llança), of Celtiberian origin. First attested in the 14th century.[1] Compare French lancer, Italian lanciare, Occitan and Portuguese lançar, Spanish lanzar.
