Possibly from Bulgarian лиска (liska) or Ukrainian лусуха (lusuxa), or alternatively from leașiță, from leah, an old word for Pole (compare Russian лях (ljax), Turkish Leh). Cf. the alternative name rață leșească (Polish duck).
