laachje
Saterland Frisian
Etymology
From Old Frisian hlakia, hlakkia, from Proto-West Germanic *hlakkōn, from Proto-Germanic *hlakkōną (“to laugh”). Cognate with West Frisian laitsje (“to laugh”), Old English hlacerung (“scoffing, mockery, scorn”). Alteration of k(k) ~ ch likely due to influence from (Middle) Low German lachen, and/or German lachen (“to laugh”).
