Etymology

From Proto-Celtic *lekno, possibly ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)leym- (marshy meadow) (see *léymō (lake)). However, compare Welsh llwyn (grove, woods, copse), which is borrowed from Latin lignum.[1]
