Etymology
Agent noun of kiteb, from Arabic كَتَبَ (kataba). The form would be equivalent to Arabic *كَتّاب (*kattāb), but كاتِب (kātib) is used instead. The plural of this latter is in fact كُتّاب (kuttāb), but kittieb may just as well be an independent derivation as Maltese has greatly expanded the use of this measure.
