Etymology
From earlier kasangbahay, from the /ŋ/ becoming /m/ before /b/ due to nasal assimilation. By surface analysis, ka- + sam- + bahay (“house”), literally “someone sharing with a single house”. Commonly mistaken to be a blend of kasama (“companion”) + bahay (“house”).
