From Proto-Albanian *kadā, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kend-. Cognate to Greek σκεδάννυμι (skedánnymi), Sanskrit स्खदते (skhadate, to split).[1] Related to Albanian kij (I prune, I trim).[2]
