köszönetet mond
Hungarian
Etymology
köszönet (“thanks”) + -et (accusative suffix) + mond (“to say”), literally “to say thanks”
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [ˈkøsønɛtɛtmond]
Usage notes
This phrase is the only option when the thing being thanked for is not specified (for example because it is obvious to the listener/s), unless the place of the object is filled with a generic word like minden(t) (“everything”), which makes the verb (meg)köszön grammatically possible. However, köszönetet mond can also be used when the object is made explicit, especially on ceremonial occasions.
Conjugation
- For the verb, see mond.
- The inflected noun remains unchanged.
