Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish اسكان (iskan), from Arabic إِسْكَان (ʔiskān), verbal noun of أَسْكَنَ (ʔaskana, to settle, lodge). The original Arabic verb is ditransitive, in the "causing to settle" sense below.
