ieisme m (plural ieismes)
- (linguistics) a feature found in varieties of Eastern Catalan whereby the Vulgar Latin medial clusters c'l, g'l, t'l, and ly (from le and li before vowels) yield the consonant [j] instead of the [ʎ] found in other varieties. For instance, llentia instead of llentilla
- Synonyms: ieisme històric, iodització
- (linguistics) More generally, pronunciation of etymological [ʎ] as [j], as in Modern French and most contemporary varieties of Spanish
