Etymology
From Old Ossetic, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *xwarž-; cognate with Iron Ossetian хорз (xorz), Digor Ossetian хуарз (xwarz, “good”), Balochi اَوَرزا(awarza "pleasant, agreeable"), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hwʾlyst' /xwālist/, “sweetest”), and Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬀- (xᵛarəzišta-, “sweetest”). Akin to Old Armenian ախորժ (axorž), an Iranian borrowing. Note also Persian خوش (xoš).
