hainnfenn
Norwegian Nynorsk
Alternative forms
- hainnfeinn, handfenn
Etymology
The first part is probably from Old Norse hǫnd.
Alternatively, from and-, contaminated by hand (compare dialectal forms of ambod getting a h-sound). Note that the term ambod itself can be in some areas of Norway humorously used referring to cutlery as well, but it still doesn't explain the etymology of the -fenn-ending.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /hɑɲfɛɲ/
Noun
hainnfenn n (definite singular hainnfennet, indefinite plural hainnfenn, definite plural hainnfenna)
