Borrowed from a South Slavic language, compare Old Church Slavonic грабити (grabiti), Serbo-Croatian grabiti (to grab, to sieze) and Bulgarian грабя (grabja, to rob, to plunder). Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *grabiti (to grab, to sieze).[1][2][3]
