From Proto-Albanian *(V)iōś-, from Proto-Indo-European *yeh₃s- (to gird). Cognate to Ancient Greek ζώννυμι (zṓnnumi, to gird) and Old Church Slavonic по-ꙗсати (po-jasati, to gird).[1]
