From Ottoman Turkish كور (gür), from Common Turkic [Term?] (compare Kipchak [script needed] (gür, “sturdy person, thick, strong”), Old Turkic 𐰚𐰇𐰼 (kür, “bully, to be able to, valiant”)), from Proto-Turkic *kü- (“to force, to be powerful”). Related to güç (“strength; difficult”).
