Learned borrowing from Old Anatolian Turkish گوركم (görkäm, worth seeing, flashy, beautiful, adjective), from Old Anatolian Turkish [Term?] (görk). Related to görmek (to see). Compare Azerbaijani görkəm. The word had fallen out of use before being revived during the language reform.
