From Italian futuro, French futur, English future, German Futur, all ultimately from Latin futūrus, irregular future active participle of sum (“I am”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰuH- (“to become, be”). Compare similar IAL derivations like Ido futuro, Interlingue futuro, Volapük fütür.
